The Truth About Neurotoxins: My Experience Beyond Botox

When I first started noticing wrinkles that didn’t disappear when my face was at rest, I knew I wanted to explore my options. Like many people, I had heard of Botox, but once I started researching, I quickly discovered there were several neurotoxins available, including Dysport, Xeomin, and Juveau.

At first, I assumed one had to be dramatically better than the others. What I learned through my own experience is that while each neurotoxin has its unique qualities, the most important thing is finding the right treatment plan and provider for your individual goals. Over the years, I have had a few injectors and let me tell you, finding the right injector for what you hope to achieve is far more important.

If you’re considering wrinkle relaxers and feeling overwhelmed by the choices, here’s what I’ve learned along the way.

Why I Decided to Try Neurotoxins

For me, it wasn’t about looking like a different person. It was about looking more refreshed.

I started noticing deeper lines between my eyebrows, forehead wrinkles that lingered long after I stopped raising my brows, and crow’s feet that seemed more prominent in photos. While I embrace aging, I also wanted to feel confident in my appearance and explore treatments that could help soften some of those lines.

After consulting with my provider, I learned that neurotoxins work by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for expression lines. The goal wasn’t to erase every wrinkle—it was to create a smoother, more rested appearance while still looking natural.

My First Experience with Botox

Like many people, my first treatment was with Botox.

I chose Botox because it was the name I knew best. It felt familiar, trusted, and well-established. Within a couple of weeks, I noticed my frown lines looked softer and my forehead appeared smoother.

What surprised me most was how natural the results looked. I could still smile, laugh, and express myself. I simply looked less tired and less stressed.

That first experience completely changed my perception of cosmetic injectables and I knew from the moment on, I would continue with a consistent treatment plan.

Learning About Dysport

In speaking with a friend who had been using Dysport and felt the result was longer lasting, I decided to give it a try myself.

I was hesitant at first because I had been happy with Botox. But I was curious to see if there was a difference.

For me, the results felt very similar overall though I did not feel it lasted any longer and at the end of the day I still favored Botox.

One thing I realized in speaking with friends is that many patients become loyal to one product, but sometimes trying different options can help you discover what works best for your face and goals. So, I kept trying…

My Thoughts on Xeomin

When I eventually learned about Xeomin through my provider, I decided to give it a try because it was a popular option that many had gravitated to at the time.

From a patient perspective, I didn’t notice a dramatic difference in how I looked compared to other neurotoxins. I also did not feel it lasted as long as other options, especially Botox.

Over time, I’ve learned that in skilled hands, all of these products can deliver beautiful, natural-looking results.

Trying Juveau

When Juveau became more widely available, I decided to give it a try as well and I am so glad I did! Turns out, Juveau is my overall favorite!

I appreciated that it was developed specifically for cosmetic use, and I found the results comparable to my previous experiences but with quicker results and lasting just as long. My frown lines softened, my face looked refreshed, and no one could quite pinpoint what had changed—they simply commented that I looked well-rested.

Honestly, that’s exactly the outcome I was hoping for.

What I’ve Learned After Using Different Neurotoxins

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that patients often focus on the brand name when they should be focusing on the injector.

With having been to more than one injector, I have learned a lot and most importantly I’ve found someone who not only does great work but someone who genuinely cares about my results as much as I do.

A great injector understands facial anatomy, listens to your goals, and creates a treatment plan that helps you look like the best version of yourself.

Why I Continue Neurotoxin Treatments

For me, neurotoxins have become part of my overall self-care routine. I regularly receive treatments every 3-4 months from the same injector.

I like that the treatments are quick, require minimal downtime, and help me maintain a refreshed appearance. I can run over the lunch hour and have my treatment done and return to work without anyone noticing. Most importantly, I appreciate that the results are subtle and no one “can tell” I’ve had any work done because it all looks so natural.

For me, that’s always the goal.

Final Thoughts

If you’re trying to decide between Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Juveau, my advice is not to get too caught up in finding the “perfect” neurotoxin. Instead, focus on finding the right injector.

All four are effective options for managing dynamic wrinkles and maintaining a smoother appearance. The best choice depends on your unique facial anatomy, treatment goals, and your provider’s recommendations.

My journey taught me that confidence doesn’t come from choosing the most popular product—it comes from finding a treatment approach that helps you feel comfortable, refreshed, and like yourself.

And sometimes, that’s the best result of all.
